Today I got a fantastic 20 inch impulse sealer, 1000 13x20 spawn bags, and some information on how to go about selling sterilizers and pressure cookers. Good!
However my awesome method of shipping culture tubes might not be so awesome after all. Since culture tubes are glass and the mail system hates glass - I need to protect it. I was doing this using PVC pipe cotton, and duct tape. I would ship these 7" by 1" tubes - no problem.
Today they said it was to small to ship - but before it wasn't an issue or ever mentioned when I had shipped all of the other tubes. Either way, they shipped it but said this size and structure would often get lost. So to counter act that I'm going to put the tubes in an envelope now, but still in the pipe. It will cost a tiny bit more and be less likely to get lost. So there is one more kink that I've worked out before totally getting into the business.
I am also meeting all sorts of very helpful people out there - so far I've talked to www.headypoo.com and Out Grow. They have both given me suggestions and are interested in working together. That is a big bonus! Plus other places out there like mushroom palace, the laboratory, and fungiforum/mycopath are also helpful in answering any questions I have about getting business started, promoting websites, and more.
I should be able to offer colonized or uncolonized rye grain and sawdust blocks soon. The ones that will be colonized will be with Nameko, Elm Oyster, Shiitake, Pink Oyster and other edible mushrooms fairly soon - So be expecting some new products to hit the market in the next little while.
It might take longer - I want to make sure they fruit well (the strain, the mixtures, the bag size doesn't lead to issues, etc) because selling junky products is not something I aim to ever do. Plus I'll be able to get some spores from those mushrooms that can either be used to isolate a good looking rhizomorphic strain or they could just simply be donated to the free spore ring - or I could toss them in as freebies to my customers?
